I feel like job search blogs are already out there, after all, there are a lot of us out there. I've been spending quite time networking online, with the notable exception of the WIL Conference at Berkeley. I've just started meeting with a career counselor which was part of my severance package and our first task was to update my resume for a handful of job postings. I really hate having to customize resumes, but you have to do it these days.

This week, however, I'm starting a few other tactics in the search for a job. I'm taking it slow, partly because I've been spending a lot of time taking care of the kids. I know looking is a full time job, unfortunately it doesn't pay as much. A big part of this next step is more face to face, or at least phone, networking. Starting with family and friends, but I'm open to all opportunities. One unusual opportunity presented itself today, where I volunteered to be a model for a photographer doing a spread on unemployed. Stay tuned and I'll post a link when I have more information. I also spoke to a reporter, the one doing the Pinkslip series in the Mercury News.

So finally getting to the point of this post, I'm starting a new blog to record some of the latest and greatest marketing practices I learn as I navigate through my network. My first call was actually to my brother, who told me about a friend who opened yogurt store #3 in Davis, CA, which seemed a bit crazy especially in this economy. Guess what college students and families are buying when they can't afford cars or vacations? Burgers and yogurt. Parking himself slightly closer to the university and across from the farmers was a smart move, and they took my brother's idea for 101 (not 100) toppings) and they raked in $65K their first month. The fact that the owner is a charismatic and wild character, and his manager/partner seems to be a marketing whiz didn't hurt either of course.

Stay tuned for more from the world of business and marketing
